The 9th International Workshop on “Empirical Methods in Energy Economics” will be held in Oviedo, Spain, on 7-8th July, 2016. This workshop, which follows in the tradition of very successful predecessors held in Zurich, Switzerland (2008), Jasper, Canada (2009), Guildford, England (2010), Dallas, Texas (2011), Berlin, Germany (2012), Ottawa, Canada (2013), Aachen, Germany (2014), and College Park, Maryland (2015), is intended to provide a forum for the development and application of empirical methods in energy economics. Details of previous workshops, along with information about joining the EMEE Network, can be found on the EMEE homepage at www.emee.ethz.ch.
To provide a conductive environment for a comprehensive exchange of ideas concerning new empirical research in energy economics, the 2016 workshop is designed to allow time for a full presentation and discussion of each contribution. All sessions are plenary (no concurrent presentations) to ensure the workshop participants’ attendance at all presentations.
All papers will be circulated in advance of the workshop so that participants have an opportunity to read them prior to the presentations. Participants are expected to attend the entire workshop and it is hoped that all participants will play a role as authors, discussants, or session chairs. Doctoral students and young researchers are particularly encouraged to submit their papers. We especially welcome submissions based on novel econometric techniques, original and extensive datasets, rigorous study designs, important policy implications, etc.
The papers and posters for the 2016 workshop will be selected on the basis of extended abstracts (3-4 pages) structured as follows: 1) overview, 2) methods, 3) data and 4) preliminary results.
The deadline for submitting extended abstracts (in PDF format) is February 29th, 2016. The abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee (see below), with acceptance decisions notified by March 31th, 2016. The extended abstracts should be attached as PDF file to email sent to the workshop address (email@example.com). Please write “EMEE paper submission” in the subject space. Registration will be possible from early April 2016, with the registration fee expected to be in the region of about 150€. Further information about the registration will follow in early 2016. Final papers, which will be accessible from the conference website, need to be submitted by June 10th, 2016.
Participants who will remain in Asturias on Saturday, July 9th, are invited to take part in an excursion to the Picos de Europa National Park for a leisurely walk around the Lakes of Covadonga.

The University of Oviedo:
The University of Oviedo is a public institution of higher education and research in the region of Asturias, Spain. With over 400 years of history, it offers a full range of undergraduate degrees adapted to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) in all branches of knowledge and postgraduate degree programmes in collaboration with national and international universities and more than 250 companies. The University of Oviedo was one of the first nine universities in Spain to receive accreditation as a Campus of International Excellence on 26 November 2009. The Historic Building, located in the centre of Oviedo, is home to the LAUDEO University Extension Cultural Centre, where major academic and cultural events are held that are open to Asturian society at large.
The Oviedo Efficiency Group:
The workshop will be organized by the Oviedo Efficiency Group (OEG), a well-established research group devoted to the analysis and measurement of firms’ efficiency and productivity (see www.unioviedo.es/oeg). The group has received visits from top international researchers and group members publish regularly in top international journals. In addition to several Spanish Efficiency Workshops, the OEG had the honour of hosting the 7th and 8th editions of the European Workshop on Efficiency and Productivity Analysis (EWEPA). The OEG organises the Permanent Seminar on Efficiency and Productivity, and has its own working papers series. In early 2015 the group began collaborating with the Cluster of Energy, Environment and Climate Change developed by the Campus of International Excellence of the University of Oviedo.
